What to Bring on Test Day

Essential Items (Must Bring)

  • Valid Passport or National ID

    Same ID used during registration (must be original, not photocopy)

  • Confirmation Email

    Test booking confirmation with candidate number

  • Pencils and Eraser

    HB pencils, sharpener, and eraser (for paper-based test)

Prohibited Items (Do NOT Bring)

  • Mobile phones or smartwatches
  • Electronic devices (calculators, tablets, etc.)
  • Books, notes, or dictionaries
  • Large bags or luggage
  • Food or drinks (except water in transparent bottle)

Note: Test centers provide lockers for storing personal belongings, but space is limited. Bring only essentials.

Test Day Timeline (Paper-based)

8:00 AM - 8:30 AM

Arrive at test center (at least 30 minutes before test time)

8:30 AM - 9:00 AM

Registration, ID verification, and fingerprinting

9:00 AM - 9:30 AM

Listening Test (30 minutes + 10 minutes transfer time)

9:30 AM - 10:30 AM

Reading Test (60 minutes)

10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Writing Test (60 minutes)

11:30 AM onwards

Speaking Test (scheduled same day or within 7 days)

Test Center Rules & Regulations

Timing Rules

  • • Late arrivals (after 9:00 AM) will not be admitted
  • • No breaks during Listening, Reading, Writing tests
  • • No extra time for bathroom breaks
  • • Speaking test schedule provided on test day

Identity Verification

  • • Fingerprint scanning required
  • • Photograph will be taken at test center
  • • Name on ID must exactly match registration
  • • No entry without valid original ID

Test Day Success Tips

Night Before

  • • Get at least 7-8 hours of sleep
  • • Prepare all documents and keep them ready
  • • Plan your route to test center
  • • Eat a light, healthy dinner

Morning of Test

  • • Eat a good breakfast (but not too heavy)
  • • Arrive 30-45 minutes early
  • • Use bathroom before entering exam hall
  • • Stay calm and positive

During Test

  • • Read instructions carefully
  • • Manage your time wisely
  • • Don't spend too long on one question
  • • Use the last 5 minutes to review answers

Stay Calm

  • • Take deep breaths if you feel anxious
  • • Remember: there's no pass or fail
  • • Focus on doing your best
  • • Don't compare yourself to others

DO's

  • Do arrive at least 30 minutes before test time
  • Do bring your original passport/ID
  • Do listen carefully to invigilator instructions
  • Do use the restroom before the test starts
  • Do answer every question (no penalty for wrong answers)

DON'Ts

  • Don't bring mobile phones to your desk
  • Don't talk to other candidates during test
  • Don't cheat or look at others' answers
  • Don't leave the test room without permission
  • Don't panic if you find questions difficult

What to Wear

Recommended:

  • Comfortable, layered clothing
  • Jacket or sweater (test centers may be air-conditioned)
  • Comfortable shoes

Avoid:

  • Clothing with large pockets
  • Hats or caps (may need to remove for photo)
  • Jewelry that may set off metal detectors

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear a watch during the test?
No, smartwatches and analog watches are not allowed. There will be a clock displayed in the test room. For computer-delivered IELTS, the timer is shown on screen.
Can I go to the bathroom during the test?
Bathroom breaks are not allowed during the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests. Please use the facilities before the test begins. Emergencies will be handled case by case.
What if I arrive late on test day?
If you arrive after the test has started, you will not be admitted. No refund will be given for late arrival. Plan to arrive at least 30-45 minutes early to avoid any issues.
Can I take the speaking test on a different day?
Speaking tests are usually scheduled on the same day as the other sections. Sometimes they may be scheduled within 7 days before or after. You will receive notification of your speaking test time during registration.
What if I feel sick on test day?
If you are unwell, contact your test center as soon as possible. You may be eligible for a transfer to another test date with medical documentation. Fees may apply.
