READING PASSAGE

The History of Coffee

Coffee is one of the world's most popular beverages, with a history dating back centuries. The legend says that a goat herder named Kaldi in Ethiopia discovered coffee when he noticed his goats became energetic after eating berries from a certain tree.

By the 15th century, coffee was being cultivated in the Arabian Peninsula and became popular in Persia, Egypt, and Turkey. Coffee houses called 'qahveh khaneh' began to appear, where people gathered for conversation, music, and games.

In the 17th century, coffee arrived in Europe and quickly gained popularity. By the mid-1600s, there were over 300 coffee houses in London, where businessmen and artists would gather.
